RETAIL BAKERS ASSOCIATION NAMES NEW PRESIDENT
LYNN SCHURMAN, CERTIFIED DECORATOR, OWNER COLD SPRING BAKERY

McLean, VA – Lynn Schurman, CD, co-owner of the 62-year-old Cold Spring Bakery in Cold Spring, MN, was appointed President of the Retail Bakers of America at a special installation banquet in St. Paul, Saturday, April 5.

Schurman’s term begins at a time when the industry is faced with several challenges. Rising commodities prices driven by an increased worldwide demand has led to an increase in the cost of bakery products. A participant in RBA’s March on Washington, held March 12 in conjunction with the American Baker’s Association, Schurman states the price hike is necessary in order for small bakeries to survive. "I am excited to begin my year serving the baking industry as the President of RBA. We face many economic challenges but we must use these challenges to bring our industry together and make it stronger. We need to put a new face on the baking industry in the eyes of the consumer and move away from the image of the tired baker making the donuts to finding our own ‘Emeril’ in the baking world" says Schurman.

Schurman is no stranger to volunteer work. She has served on the Board of Directors for the Upper Midwest Bakers Association, Minnesota Chamber of Commerce and Cold Spring Hometown Pride Festival Committee. She also serves on the Rocori School Board where she has served as chairman for nine years.

Also serving with Schurman as officers of RBA are Rich Reinwald, CMB, Reinwald’s Bakery, Huntington, NY, 1st Vice President; Rick Boone, Rick’s Bakery, Fayetteville, AR, 2nd Vice President; and Bruce Bennyhoff, Dawn Foods, Jackson, MI, Treasurer.
