9th Annual RBA Pillsbury Grand Champion Creative Decorating Competition
This competition is one of the two competitions held at the American Retail Bakery Exposition, the baking industry’s premier tradeshow. Contestants will compete in the following categories: Flowers and Sprays, Wedding Cake, Rolled Fondant, Custom Design Cakes, and Sculpted Cakes. For two days, the competition will take place in front of a live audience on the tradeshow floor.
The highest scoring individual, as determined by a panel of judges, will be awarded the coveted Pillsbury Grand Champion Trophy, sponsored by General Mills. Gold, silver, and bronze medals will also be awarded for the highest three scores in each category.
All contestants must be members of the Retail Bakers of America, must work full-time or part-time in a retail bakery, and have a minimum of four years of decorating experience.
Contestants can enter by competing at their local affiliate contest or by portfolio if they do business in an area not covered by a local affiliate. Application by portfolio must be postmarked by July 31, 2009. Contestants will be announced by August 15, 2009.

2nd Annual Cake & Bread Extravaganza
Calling all cake decorators and bakers! Compete in the 2nd Annual Cake & Bread Extravaganza in one or all categories. Cakes may be decorated using an artificial (Styrofoam) cake but must be a design that can be replicated with cake. Bring completed cakes and breads to be judged by a team of expert judges. All items will be judged on a point system and receive a Gold, Silver or Bronze medal at RBA's Awards Ceremony, Monday, October 19, 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm. Cash prizes will be given for the Best of Show in each category.
Divisions:
- Intermediate/Advanced: More than two years experience
- Beginning/Student: Less than two years experience
Categories:
- Wedding Cake - Cakes with two or more tiers. May be butter cream, fondant, or chocolate with any type of decorations.
- Novelty/Specialty - Any non-tiered cake with a theme such as a Birthday, Anniversary, Christmas, Easter, etc. Any sugar medium or technique may be used.
- Sculpted Cake with a Race Car/Racing Theme
- Bread - Any decorative, artisan or show piece type bread
